Role Models Yorkshire is a nonprofit community interest company run by young people for young people. Our aim is simple, to ensure that young people have the confidence and tools to unleash their potential. The way we do this is through professional role models from diverse backgrounds.

Yorkshire Engineering Challenge
An engineering problem is sent to schools across the county. The schools with the best solutions will win a place at the final (held at the University of York).

In Partnership with the 93% Club York we are currrently trailing a new mentoring programme with a school in York. The plan is that we will eventually role this out to more schools across the county.

Our Free Services

Yorkshire Engineering Challenge
An engineering problem, set by engineering student from leading UK universities (including York, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter and Oxford), is sent to schools across the county. The schools have to assemble a team of engineers (pupils) to design and present a solution to the problem. The teams with the best solutions are invited to our final at the University of York, where they must present and defend their solution to a board of experts.

Role Model Talks
Our flagship service. Leading profesionals from diverse backgrounds visit schools (virtually or in person) and talk about how they have overcome barrier to acheive top careers. This is followed up with a training session, from our team, on achieving top careers.

An online platform proving virtual mentors for young people. Whether, they want to learn more about careers, university, study skills, or starting a business, the RMHub has it covered.

Research
Since the begining of Role Models Yorkshire, we have been dedicated to a research based approach, ensuring that our services support young people in the best way possible. We are now taking this one step further by assembling an inhouse research team who will be dedicated to producing high standard research on social mobility and education engagement.

What we did during Lockdown

During the first national COVID-19 lockdown, students across the UK were stranded at university. We brought stranded students together virtually to run the Togetherness Campagin.  The aim of the campagin was to support local communities during the lockdown, providing virtual coffees, digestable news updates, daily family activities, one-to-one chats and much more. The Togetherness Campagin reached thousands of people from all backgrounds across the country. Here is a short video introducing some of the volunteers who took part.
